I enjoy buying yarn online from sellers in various places and Etsy is naturally one of the places that I look for yarn. One of the Etsy stores that I recently got yarn from was Jane & Michael.
You can find the store here; that link will take you to their Etsy, Ravelry, Twitter, Facebook and Blog links. Update/ Note: The store can now be found under the name A Stash Addict. Additionally, Danielle of Jane and Michael has a blog called A Stash Addict’s Ramblings, which I’ve featured previously as part of my Hooked Together project.
About Jane & Michael
Jane & Michael is an UK based company with a passion for “letting children be children” while also inspiring and rekindling a love for vintage, whimsical childhood experiences. This is reflected in the items that they sell online which include hand-dyed yarns that are inspired by vintage nostalgia. They are also getting ready to sell “handmade vintage inspired childrenswear and accessories for both child and nursery”. Very inspiring shop.
About the Yarn
The yarn that I personally got was a 2-ply organically farmed 100% laceweight merino in the hand dyed colorway called Sage. It’s a beautiful light green color that is vivid even though it’s a light color, a unique feature to achieve. I haven’t worked with the yarn, yet, but it feels soft and lovely. I’ll be working it into large-ish granny squares to use as panels in my latest repurposed dress project. It’s the green below:
All of this store’s yarns are hand dyed. They use natural dyes. There is a range of fibers and colors, including both solids and variegated or ombre options. Some of the yarns in the store right now that I am coveting include:
Hand dyed baby alpaca and silk blend yarn in Light Duck Egg Color
Super Washed English Bluefaced Leicester 4ply Sock Yarn in Sky Color
My Jane & Michael Experience
Working with Jane & Michael was super easy. I placed my order through PayPal. There was actually a glitch in the ordering process. Not sure if the problem was Etsy or PayPal or what but in any case Jane & Michael let me know right away, super quickly, and we easily worked it out. They were very responsive and sent my yarn out to me quickly. I usually try to make a note of the packaging that is used to send yarn to me but honestly I can’t remember what was used here. I do know that means that I felt like it was appropriately packaged (well enough to get to me safely but not excessively) or else I would have made a special note about it. One thing I really loved about the yarn is that the tag on it that describes the yarn is a beautiful handmade tag with typewriter typing and a fabric label that really shows that this store is true to their vintage nostalgia through and through.
I think a great thing to note here is that Jane & Michael is happy to work on custom orders including custom colorways for yarn. I haven’t done this so I don’t know the details but I think it would be a lot of fun to check into!
Conclusion: I would definitely buy yarn from this Etsy store again.
