Crochet Quote: Homespun

Today’s crochet quote is from Jimmy Stephen-Cran, a course instructor at the Glasgow School of Art Fashion and Textiles. He is talking about the work of the school’s latest fashion students in a really great article about the program over at The Skinny.

It is a delight to see a revival of artisan skills such as crochet and ikat weaving and raffia embroidery but with none of the ‘home spun’ connotations.”

What do you think about this? Are homespun connotations always bad? Or does this quote only make sense in the context of a cutting-edge fashion school?
