Here’s what happened in terms of crochet and yarn stuff in my world this week. Tell me about your week in the comments – I want to know!
Started a New Upcycled Dress
I barely got started on this and have no specific plans. I got the top from Goodwill and will be adding the skirt. I have pulled out Six Skeins laceweight merino in the color Coral Reef (orange) and Jane and Michael’s 2-ply laceweight merino in Sage (green). I have started crocheting a large granny square of the orange using a D hook. This is my first time trying a granny with laceweight – it’s an interesting effect. I’m actually thinking of making diamonds or even hanging panels from large squares but we’ll see how it develops over time. I want to take my time with this one because I’ve learned from experience that rushing leads to lots of frogging!
Turned some Squares into Bags
I mentioned in the frogging posts last week that I had these beautiful yellow, white and black squares that were supposed to be a blanket but didn’t become one. I was able to salvage some of them and turned them into these little bags. They are currently unlined. I think I’ll just leave them that way and then they can be easy gift bags (because you can always wrap a gift in tissue paper and stick it in a crochet bag!
Going through Vintage Crochet Magazines
I got a bunch of vintage crochet magazines this summer and I spent some time yesterday going through them, finding ideas and inspiration, marking pages and articles I like, etc. That was fun! My favorite magazines are these terrific vintage McCall’s from the 1920′s. There’s not much crochet stuff in there but there are SUCH great drawings of the flapper era fashions. Will definitely be doing something with these images in the future.
Yes, more yarn … and better yarn organization
Yes, I did get a little bit more yarn. It was from a free yarn lot that I won on Listia a bit back and it finally arrived. Just some random colors. I actually used two of them already to make the crochet bags that I featured yesterday in my Year of Projects post.
I also got much further along in my project to re-organize my yarn by color instead of how it was before (fiber type/ weight). Here’s a photo of my blues, greens and greys:
New Bag – from Dad’s Amish buddy
My dad sent me this bag in the mail today and I’ll probably use it to hold some of my yarn stash for awhile until I get more silver containers like the ones above. The bag itself isn’t crocheted – it’s made on a loom. It’s heavy – almost carpet like material – super sturdy! It was made by one of Dad’s Amish friends in Ohio. He makes these great colorful ones as well as more solid colors. I may be looking for a market to help him sell this stuff in the future. Any thoughts?
Versatile Blogger Award
Just wanted to say thanks to YarnBerry and Rip It Good and Keri at Yarn Dharma. for awarding me the Versatile Blogger award. I am participating but I’m doing it over on my other blog, Diary of a Smart Chick.
