Last week I showed off the two wine bag cozies that I made to kick off my work on the Year of Projects hosted over on Ravelry. This week I’m still working on wine bag cozies but using a different pattern.
Last week the pattern I used was CrochetSpot’s Easy Wine Bottle Cover. This week I used the Wine Bottle Gift Bag by Suzie’s Stuff. This is a super simple pattern but it uses a lovely V-stitch that creates a nice effect that makes the wine bottle gift bag look a bit fancy.
I did two wine bottle gift bags in this pattern. The first one I did using Red Heart Super Saver that I had left over from a project that I did a couple of years ago. I knew that I tend to crochet “big” with this yarn so I went down a hook size from the recommended I hook in the pattern. Other than that I followed the pattern to a T. For the wine bottle tie I used a thick green corded yarn that had come in a yarn lot I got this summer at a yard sale. The Christmassy colors will work well for gifting a bottle of wine this holiday season but in general I think this yarn is too thick for me to want to continue using it for wine bottle gift bags. A looser, lacier, lighter yarn creates a “richer” effect that I think complements a bottle of wine nicely.
I decided to test this theory by doing the same pattern in a different yarn. This yarn also come in a yarn lot and I have no idea what it is but it’s a white yarn that has some sparkle running through it. As I expected, I preferred this effect. I added a blue cord tie to this one because I love the combination of blue and white.
This is a really easy pattern and a great way to dress up a bottle of wine that you’re bringing to someone as a gift when you go to their home.
