Peppermint Carry All Eco Tote Bag by Tina Dean Designs
When the Emmy awards roll around this fall there will be more than just the usual smiles and tears. There will be crocheted plarn!
A Fredericksburg.com news article tells of a “mompreneur” named Tina Dean Allen who crochet handbags and other gift items using crochet plarn. The Artisan Group has decided to feature this eco-friendly crochet work at the Primetime Emmy Awards this year. Her crocheted plarn shoulder bags will be on display in the gift lounge of the event. Plus she will be providing gift certificates to buy her work in 100 of the swag bags at the Emmys this year.
The article explains that Dean is a cool woman. She was previously an executive assistant at a law firm but the economy took its downturn and she was laid off a couple of years ago. Instead of sitting around and moping about it she got busy creating her own business, starting off with an Etsy store and expanding into a full e-commerce store where she sells traditional as well as recycled crochet designs.
In addition to her traditional plarn items (if you can call any plarn traditional!), Allen is doing some crochet work using the old tape out of VHS cassettes. She will be combining that tape with yarn to make crocheted wristlets for members of the press to wear at the Emmy Awards. How fun!
Celebrities are frequently spotted in regular crochet (check out my recent posts on Vanessa Hudgens and Cristy Rice). Maybe this example of crochet plarn at the Emmy Awards will catch on with some of them as well!
