Toms Crochet Style Shoes Hit Store in June

The LA Times did an interview earlier this month with Blake Mycoski of Toms Shoes. The interview made me think that this guy seems like someone you would want to get to know. What caught my attention most, though, was the fact that his newest shoes (out in stores this June) are crochet-inspired.

The collection prior to this one was “inspired by the journals and images left by activist Dan Eldon, the young photographer who was killed in 1993 covering the war in Somalia”. The fall collection is designed to encourage teachers and other great mentors. And Mycoski recently participated in One Day Without Shoes, a project to raise awareness about the people in the world who can’t afford shoes. So there’s nothing shallow about this line of footwear and that makes it something that I want to support.

Now I will be the first to admit that the Toms crochet shoes aren’t my personal style. I’m more interested in the Gaultier crochet shoes than these. But I also don’t wear flip flops and the consumer these are marketed for are the flip flops wearing kind. Nothing wrong with that, just not my thing. Still I do love the crochet inspiration and think that it’s a great springtime item so I wanted to be sure to share it here.

Would you wear these crochet inspired shoes?

  1. I’d definitely wear those!

  2. I have a pair of Tom’s canvas shoes. I’d love a pair of the crochet inspired shoes to wear here in Florida in the summer. I prefer going barefoot, but after stepping on some glass last year, make sure to wear something protecting my soles. These look like just the ticket… cute, a nod to my crochet obsession and naturally air conditioned!

  3. I want these but can I get them in Canada ?

  4. will these ever be released again? i heard they were out in summer 2010, but i want to know if there is any way to have a chance to get them again

    • Yes, the new summer collection is supposed to be released in June and will have a crochet influence according to the LA Times.

  5. will there be other colors???

    • Good question, Rachel … I’m not sure but I would guess there will be. We’ll know soon since they get released in June!

    • @Annie – Thanks for mentioning this. I’ve read in several articles that they’re going to be a June release but I’m going to try to get in touch with someone at TOMS to get a more direct answer. Will let you know!

  9. I looked at TOMS.com, and they only have the neon green, but I’ve seen pictures online in white/ivory and I think even brown? Anyone have an idea as to the colors yet?

    • @Savannah – a few days ago the site was offering black, natural (white), red and neon green but the site has since changed. I’ve emailed TOMS but haven’t heard back yet.

  12. I ordered the cream crochet Toms from Nordstrom on-line. They currently do not show the shoes on-line at all, but they did show them in cream, red, and black crochet. I’m excited to get mine on Wednesday; they say they are super cute in person! The shipping shows them coming from Davenport, Iowa.
