I have never had a strong desire to visit China. There are just so many other places in the world that I want to see first that I’m not sure that China is on my list for this lifetime. Nevertheless, there is a part of me that wishes I could be in Beijing at the end of next month. That’s because it’s time for the annual Intertextile Beijing Apparel trade show, a show that includes a lot of vendors of interest to people who enjoy crochet. And the show is bigger than ever with a reported 11% increase in the number of vendors this year over last year.

Intertextile Beijing is a huge trade fair for apparel fabrics, accessories manufacturers and various suppliers. There are more than 1000 exhibits filling up a 48,000 square meter space with their goods. Of course, the number one part of the exhibit that I would be interested in would be the section of people selling fibers and yarns. But there are many related products and technologies that should be interesting in well including the integration of electronics in fiber art design, the care of different textiles, a look at the latest textile technology and niche topics such as crochet embroidery.

Fibre2Fashion says that “also on show will be a variety of buttons, lace and embroideries as well as thread & tapes, labels & tags, ribbons, hooks & loops, appliqu├ęs sequins, beads & rhinestones plus many other items.”

Intertextile Beijing 2011 is being held March 30 – April 1 at the China International Exhibition Center. Do you wish that you could be there?
